Inovação e valorização dos recursos alimentares marinhos: desafios e oportunidades locais

Objectivos e resultados obtidos

O CIIMAR abraçou um novo projeto desafiador, o INNOVMAR - Inovação e Sustentabilidade na Gestão e Exploração de Recursos Marinhos é o novo projeto integrado financiado pelo Programa Operacional Regional do Norte (NORTE2020) através do Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER). O INSEAFOOD - Inovação e valorização de produtos do mar: atendendo a desafios e oportunidades locais - é uma das principais linhas de pesquisa integradas neste projeto estruturado.

O principal objectivo da INSEAFOOD é potenciar as competências científicas do CIIMAR na área da Aquacultura e Qualidade do Marisco, que são relevantes para a implementação da Estratégia do Norte de Portugal para a Especialização Inteligente. O objetivo desta linha de pesquisa é gerar conhecimento científico e inovação de alta qualidade, através da produção de itens de valor agregado para alimentos do mar, levando a cadeias alimentares mais sustentáveis e de melhor desempenho. O INSEAFOOD envolve uma equipe excepcional de pesquisadores do CIIMAR complementada com a inclusão de novos postos científicos, jovens pesquisadores e estudantes de doutorado que reforçarão a capacidade de competir nas áreas de pesquisa em aquicultura e qualidade de frutos do mar. O esforço de investigação centrar-se-á em mariscos economicamente importantes e bem estabelecidos (Ostra-do-Pacífico, Crassostrea gigas) e espécies de peixes-dourados (robalo europeu, Dicentrarchus labrax) que desempenham um papel importante no setor da aquicultura portuguesa. O projeto também se concentrará no monitoramento de algas marinhas e populações de ouriço-do-mar (Paracentrotus lividus) da costa do mar do norte de Portugal. Finalmente, será realizada uma avaliação do potencial econômico de ovas de ouriço do mar de alta qualidade produzidas em cativeiro por meio de modulação alimentar.

Foi lançado o primeiro boletim eletrônico do projeto INSEAFOOD, que resume parte do trabalho de pesquisa desenvolvido nos primeiros 12 meses do projeto (01/01/2016 a 31/12/2016). O boletim eletrônico INSEAFOOD será publicado nos meses 18, 24 e 32 e fornecerá informações sobre o andamento do projeto, publicações científicas, participação em eventos, reuniões de projetos e eventos organizados e disseminação de notícias.
